Created my first original game!

Post by Jeff Georgeson »

I've just finished Retro Retrievers: Bell's Angels, written for the Telecommunications History Group as part of my Games Architecture module at uni. It's not Call of Duty or anything, but I'm still proud :)

If you want to take a look, go to http://jgdesignworks.com/EngBlog/blog5.php. It's definitely more in Alpha than release stage, and I'd love comments on it (good or bad).

for some reason I have a song rattling around in my head.

"Take me out to the Bell game, take me out with the crowd ...."

"take me out"? some kind of first person shooter?

So far the only comment I can make is it doesn't run in Windows 7 64-bit :)

That's odd ... since I'm running Windows 7 64-bit, and it works for me.

It does end up in the x86 Programs folder, so it's probably running in 32-bit mode, but it ought to work.

What error(s) are you getting? Is it a .Net framework error? An XNA framework error?

Hmmm ... that would seem to be a problem with a goofy bit Microsoft left not flagged (re: running 32-bit programs on a 64-bit system). Since I can't replicate it on my machine (since my 64-bit machine runs it just fine), I'm not sure I've fixed the problem. I did try, though, and have re-uploaded the setup program.

I realise this is a pain (and for a free game, as well), but if you get a chance could you download again and try to reinstall? If it works, great! If not, I'm at a loss (and pissed at Microsoft for not supporting their own 64-bit platform better).

I think there's supposed to be some sort of "WOW64" 32-bit emulator enabled on Windows 7, but obviously it isn't doing the trick.

Thanks!
