The green one was a variation of subSilver ... it may have even been subGreen or something like that.

I can go look for it if you like.

I spent a couple of hours messing around with a local install of phpBB and concluded that the theme system is awkward as hell. I can't work out how to effectively alter the themes and templates to do what I wanted, becuase the CSS file you use seems to have no effect on anything, it's all done through a very annoying web interface that's severely limited, and often makes irrational changes to part of the theme it shouldn't. I got ticked off with it and gave up.

I've established that a black theme is out of the question unless someone fancies redoing all the default graphics icons with a back background instead of grey/white.

I'll have another look and see if I can get something worked out for a white theme, but I really just keep ending up with green on white which looks like something lifted off the Matrix DVDs :P

Anyone who has any ideas or suggestions towards a more web designer friendly would be appreciated!

I've just been poking around on phpBB's site and it's hard to find any of the themes--I wonder if, in their update to phpBB 3, they've made the site a bit too awkward to navigate. I remember (ages ago) looking for themes and seeing lovely little thumbnails and descriptions, but now I get broken links and no thumbs at all.

I'll keep trying to sort out whether there's an easier way to change the styles without tons of frustration.

Yeh I did the same, it's total crap that site, you can't find jack on it anymore.

I've been looking at one of the old theme's directories and think the three primary files to directly edit are:

[themeName].css
[themeName].cfg
theme_info.cfg

You've probably already looked at just these files, though.

Yeh I tried hacking about in [theme name].css and it made no difference.

OK, I've found the old "green" style tucked away in a folder on my hard drive--subTeal!

I'm even now modding it to stop spam, then I'll install it and see if it works. (It's very old, so I don't know if it will work with the installed version of phpBB.)

Cheers,
Jeff

Still sorting it out ... something's wrong with part of the registration process.

I'll change the text whilst wandering around ... :)

Better, much better.

edit: Could do with making the text in the quote boxes a shade or 2 darker too.

The default theme is going to flip back and forth for a while because I'm trying to sort something out.

Just FYI :)
