1. Make a sig strip. It should be 468x60 pixels (standard web banner size) or smaller and should be a compressed JPEG, PNG or GIF file. Some sites have limits on the dimensions and file size of sigs to prevent them overloading people's connections on long threads. Hopefully Jeff has some in place somewhere...
2. Upload your file on a web or image hosting service somewhere that supports direct links (some don't like it). If you can't fond anywhere I can host it and give you a URL if you like.
3. Insert an IMG (shorthand for for IMAGE) tag in your sig that looks like this (this is for my sig strip):

< will mention that phpBB doesn't seem to have an option for limiting sig image sizes (but has a limit on the number of characters )
If anyone does start using enormous sigs, I'll add another code modification to limit sizes.
