The Galaxy Railways: A Letter from the Abandoned Planet

Post by Freitag »

Just watched this: The Galaxy Railways: A Letter from the Abandoned Planet

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Galaxy_Railways

A 4 episode OVA that is like season 1.5 of of the The Galaxy Railways stories. Season 1 came out in 2003 and season 2 in 2007

Although this OVA came out in 2007 it's animated in a very 1970s style - matching the original "Galaxy Express 999"

So it's a time paradox story where parents save their child by putting another young woman into a coma (perhaps actually dead but held in stasis by her husband). And because they broke time itself their whole planet is wiped from history to preserve the rest of the universe.

Somehow the woman's husband maintains the ability to act and he teaches himself temporal mechanics, forces his world back into existence, and just needs to kill off the now grown child to restore his wife. And presumably undoing the paradox would restore everyone else on the planet too.

But the SDF (train defense force) heroes interfere and nearly break his plans. During the crux of the moment when time is in flux and all histories are visible (several characters see family long lost to them) some goddess of the universe steps in and sets everything "right". The orphan gets to meet his birth parents (although they cannot stay), other people see other things. and the whole planet that got screwed over stays screwed over. Amy (the dead lady) and her husband (the guy that tried to fix time) dissolve into nothingness.

They even had some huge plot point that even the goddess was forbidden to interfere with time and she broke the rules, destroyed the trio of guardians and then screwed over a whole planetful of people by leaving them as never has beens.

Wow, what a terrible ending for a really weird show about trains that travels the universe.
People tend to look at you a little strangely when they know you stuff voodoo dolls full of Ex-Lax.
