A new CG anime...by Aramaki once again and Sony is behind it. Apparently, this will be a prequel-ish/reboot...where Deunan and Bri are on the hunt for fabled Olympus City.

The trailer for Appleseed: Alpha has just been released. I prefer the CG style animation as opposed to cel-shading style they experimented on the first CG Appleseed film. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNDb2J6DIwg

Bought the Blu-Ray 6 months ago, but didn't watch it until now.

Briareos and Deunan are skilled soldiers who are now beholden to working odd missions to pay off a debt to their New York cyber-thug overlord, Two Horns. The world is a post-war mess, and cyborg maintenance is a pricey commodity, so hopes of a free life are slim, but there is a rumor of a fabled utopia--Olympus City--that has risen from apocalyptic ashes. But first, debts must be paid, so the duo accepts a final job from Two Horns outside New York. When they stumble upon a young girl whose purpose is well above their pay-grade, Bri and Deunan are forced to either stick to simple survival or actually fight for something they believe in.

Featuring near photo-realistic CGI, Appleseed Alpha stylistically differs from the other CG films. Some shots are pretty amazing to see. Briareos looks cooler than ever as far as I'm concerned, and will continue to stand as one of my favorite anime heroes. Deunan, I'm not sure if her current incarnation did the character justice. I remember her being more immature, hotheaded, and youthful. Even though many won't complain about her fanservice outfit, it just didn't seem like appropriate combat attire and more cosplayish. But I'm just picky because I liked the original manga's military-tech geekiness. Still, the show was entertaining enough to finish as there weren't any unnecessary dead spots and forced moments.

In the end, I was hoping to see them reach Olympus City. Just for the sake of seeing this film's version. But at least I got to see a landmate. CG quality was very high, but Deunan's facial-motion-capture looked contorted at times. But overall, very impressive visually. The story also was a great improvement, but don't get to excited if you think you will learn a great back-story...not really. The villains lacked the most depth in this film and it was no big thrill to me when they met their demise...very 2D in a 3D production. The giant weapons platform was cool as was the rail gun.

Ooo, looks good. YouTube suggested I watch this one next https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pT0xo2Dk7-U (also Appleseed Alpha)

Yeah, I hate it when happens. For me it's using the BBC news Android app. When you open it from a widget link on some story and read several stories and then find one you want to share, it shares the link to the first one you opened, not the one you're reading right then. I keep forgetting that.
