Togusa, you fool!

Should Togusa implant at least some Cybernetics?

It would only seem logical in the type of job he works at

Interesting observation, mm. I especially agree that "natural" humans, even nowadays, harbor a fear of the unknown. To emphasize the contrast between Togusa and his fellow teammates, take a look at Motoko. Even as a young child, she took on the challenge of being one of the first to use a prosthetic body, she would always be utilizing the newest technologies, and even go so far as to willingly create a new type of being with the Puppetmaster. Needless to say, Togusa would probably not have done the same.

Poor old Batou has lost his temper, nearly killed someone even when told not to, cryed, screamed his head off, and even went on a suicide equivalent mission just to meet his Motoko. :( Poor guy gets my vote for most emotional Koukaku Kidotai character...

mm
I second you there.

I think that the other characters, because of their military background hide there emotions a lot too. Batou seems to be looked down upon slightly because he can't do that as effectively. (like when they are teasing him for his emotions at the end of gig 1) However, from "jungle cruise" it seems like he has seen some horrific things that maybe have broken his ability to keep his emotions more in check. Maybe once you see stuff like that, letting people see you care about a girl isn't that worrisome.

Togusa's pseudo rookie status, and lack of a hardening military background probably account for his more open emotional state. Which is an example of the skewed world they live in, when the hardened cop is open compared to the veterans of I forget how many world wars they were all in.

i just rewatched the 1st GITS movie. It seems to me the whole point of Togusa is to give some balance to not only Section 9 but to the cast as well. It seems his character was intentionally kept a flesh and blood human to soften a lot of scenes. Maybe the creators of the whole GITS world were affraid that without a meat based character people wouldn't relate as well to the others. Even though the others seem to be more popular, Togusa creates some interesting interactions between himself and the Major that gives her a chance to explain herself to us.

could a flesh and blood character make it easier to believe that such a type of organisation could exist in the near future.. with a mixture of bionic and human....

im sure a version of section 9 works nowadays.. well you could say that mi5 and mi6 arent that disimilar to section 9?

Not only, but also, Togusa's a good addition due to his ignorance to Motoko's infamacy, so he didn't care about talking to her. He did it with ease, and wasn't quite as shaken by the mighty fist of respect that others get when they talk to her. Others bite their tongue, but he seems very forward. Perhaps it's that ignorant purity that makes this rookie a veteran in some things none of the other members will ever even learn.

Others bite their tongue,

mm
Batou doesn't. She seems to like those two the best, probably because of that.

Naah, Batou even knows his limits. I think it wasn't just motoko's bum that silenced him in the first movie when they were on the boat. He seemed like he didn't dare to really question her authority, and decisions too much. But I don't know...maybe it was just that amazing, beautiful, high-tech, Motoko-filled body that caused him to be quiet.....>_> I'm not obsessed, I swear....

I think Motoko's using him as a way to keep herself from forgetting she was once a flesh and blood creature.

If Batou is so hot for her bod. why the heck does he keep covering her up. She wears his jacket as much as he does. I think Batou is either A-sexual of not completed. Maybe he needs some cyborg viagra or an erection ( i mean erector ) set

Naw, Batou is that rare species, a gentleman.

He is in love with the Major, not just in lust with her.

Not only a gentleman, but also someone who doesn't forget one thing they allready share, their friendship. It seems that when people find feelings for someone, they completely forget what they allready have, thus they ignore everything, and are blinded by the new emotions. It's quite pathetic, but I guess that's human nature.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Togusa's low level of cyberization is intended to balance the team out. And he's also the family guy that we can relate to.

Also, keep in mind that Aramaki and Ishikawa also have low levels of cyberization, as does Saito for most of the TV series. Section 9 is diverse in this respect and it's one of it's strengths. The major says as much when she explains to Togusa why he was recruited to Section 9.

Even if replacing his body with cybernetic parts would be strategically useful for Togusa, I think he would reject cyberization for the same reason that he sticks with his Mateba revolver instead of the technically superior Seburo. Togusa, as the old fashioned good cop represents the world we're more familar with and he prefers tried and true methods over advanced technology. His Mateba and his low level of cyberization are a essential parts of him the same way Motoko's watch and Batou's weightlifting practices are essential parts of them. If Togusa gave up these essentials, Togusa wouldn't be Togusa anymore. :)

Im fairly new to ghost in the shell so ive probly missed alot but ive always seen Togusa as the main character over Batu or the Major. He's the only character that i think you can realy empathise with because we know that he's still human and that he's probably going to lose.
