Why the different opening style?

Why did they turn away from computer graphics? Not complaining, as I think GIG's opening is more fluid, but would like to know the reasoning behind the change, if anybody can clue me in?

I've wondered this too. I rather liked the CG opening from the first gig and hoped (or rather asumed) it would be back.

I too liked the CGI opening for the first season, but for some reason, I feel that the opening for SAC 2nd Gig suits the second season.

I like that CGI opening too but I find the 2nd gig opening more charismatic and cool just like the 2nd gig itself. So I think it suits better too.

During the first season of Stand Alone Complex, the Japanese opening wasn't CG until the third episode.

Fun little fact. Any chance of me getting my hands on this opening?

Again, why? Just wondering.

You can simply download 1st episode from kazaa/limeware to see the opening.

Most of us here don't condone pirating.

I also would like to know where I could get my hands on it.

Then you are unlikely to get your hands on it, since I believe that even on Japanese DVDs it was replaced with CG.

I wouldn't consider downloading something I've already bought as piracy. And considering that if it wasn't for fansubs, I'd never had bought a single anime volume, in the first place, I think it's wrong to say that they are entirely bad for the business. Now I'm spending hundreds of euros on anime, thanks to P2P.

The different openings

I was disappointed that the two openings for season one where not made available as part of the extras on the SAC disks. I have seen the montage opening and I prefer it to the CG opening. Alternatively, the SAC:2nd Gig closing also features the outro with "Christmas in the Silent Forest". I don't know if the animation is different, but I do prefer the music "In the Shell" and "Christmas" to "Lithium Flower". Has anyone seen the "Christmas" outro?

Best,

Richard

Closing Theme - Living Inside the Shell, Music

Episode 1-25 (Japanese Terrestrial Broadcast)

Christmas in the Silent Forest is not an outro but an intro as wikipedia says. :) Last episoe is exceptional of course.

The second opening feels a lot more dynamic and well-placed in my opinion. I preffer the concistency of different speeds of movement, and the force behind some of the scenes, such as when motoko breaks the bridge when she jumps on it. I don't think that could have ever been done as well in 3d.

Does anyone know what the snyper song (that was used at the ending theme song in Japan) is like?

Snyper plays in one of the episodes in 2nd gig. In the 14th episode as far as I know...
