I don't get the part where the Major shoots the Type-303 and puts holes in it? What good is that gonna do? Plus in the scene where they play the extracted memories the animators and drawers made a Gainax like look to the characters. Have any comments or questions?

The point where she is putting holes in the armor is essentially just an act of pure emotion, it's not part of her job. The Major probably very rarely bursts out like that. And if you didn't catch it, I think the episode is more of tribute to the first movie.

The episode you are talking about is Eraser. Sorry but I had to correct it. Also I agree that the major was just emotional and that this was taken from the first film.
