Source of Tachikomas' Song?

Post by jester »

Hey- Does anyone know where the Tachikomas' "death" song from the 2nd Gig finale comes from? Very haunting melody and lyrics, sounds like it could be a Japanese folk song, but I wouldn't put it past the geniuses behind GITS to come up with it themselves.

Thanks in advance.

Yoko Kanno is pretty amazing. I think it's probably a piece of hers (even though I haven't seen the episode).

For instance the movie soundtrack has a very traditional japanese feel to it even though it was all written by Kenji Kawai.

GITS: 2nd Gig Tachikoma Song?

Post by jester »

Anyone have any leads on the source of the "death song" that the Tachikomas sing towards the end of Episode 26, 2nd gig?

Not sure which one you're talking about. Is there a way to describe the song for those who haven't seen that episode?

[SPOILERS......]

I'm talking about the song the Tachikomas are singing as the satellite with their AIs on it crashes to the Earth in order to block the path of the nuclear missile that was fired on Dejima (2nd Gig, Episode 26):

"We're all alive.
It's because we're all alive that we're sad.
When we raise our hands and let the sunlight filter through,
we can see our blood coursing through them a vivid red.
Even earthworms, mole crickets and water striders
are all, all alive and all our friends.

We're all alive
It's because we're all alive that we laugh.
We're all alive
It's because we're all alive that we're glad.
When we raise our hands and let the sunlight filter through,
we can see our blood coursing through them a vivid red.
Even dragonflies, frogs and honey bees
are all, all alive and all our fr..."

Hi! I also wanted this song! Does anyone know if
1) it's on any CD (I know it's not on the SAC ost on either of the 3 volumes)
2) it's available online somewhere
3) someone has it

The season finale is mind boggling, it's really great! I wonder if there'll be a 3rd gig? :?:

As for that song being on a soundtrack CD, it is not on the three SAC soundtrack CDs, I heard that there will be a fourth CD, so maybe that song will be on that CD.

OoooOO what pretty lyrics, where did you find the lyric translation? I believe they were singing in Japanese on the Adult swim version....

Fansubs, most likely. They're a good thing to have, as long as you remember to buy the DVDs, afterwards.

Thanks for the translation, jester. One of the things I've found frustrating about trying to watch SAC on Adult Swim is that they refuse to show the secondary subtitles for songs, street signs, etc.
It's also curious that they didn't try to dub that song into English, as they did with the song at the beginning of AgO3 in season 1.

I would like it if Adult Swim would show the secondary subtitles, it would have been nice to see the actual translation of the Tachikoma's song in the Endless Gig episode. Luckily, the seventh volume of SAC 2nd Gig will provide the secondary subtitles for that song.
