GITS Megacorps (Fanfiction)

Post by Kojima »

If you want more info about the corporations in GITS, click here. These corporations belong to the Cyberpunk 2020 world, but have also done business with corps in GITS and are tied together in this fanfiction I am writing. I'll be writing about the CP2020 megacorps here as well as corporations outside of both. Some you may recognize, while others you don't.

Arasaka Corporation: A huge Japanese zaibatsu headed by a megalomaniacal CEO obsessed with making Japan into a superpower; likely nod to World War II arms manufacturer Arisaka. Their influence is so deep, they can compete against even heavyweight corporations like Poseidon Industrial themselves. If you are not sure who these guys are, you are headed for a world of hurt out there. Saburo Arasaka was the very founder of this organization. Arasaka is primarily concerned with security consulting and armament research and production. They also have a large portfolio of subsidiary companies and have a strong global influence and presence.

Biotechnica: An Italian biotechnology, pharmacology, and cybernetics firm (possibly referential of Archer Daniels Midland, with a similar logo)

Dakai soundsystems: A corporation known for innovation in vocal aid. They offer a range of products intended to ease communication but the most common off-the-shelf installations they market are usually more utilitarian in the form of vocal scramblers or enhancers.

Euro Business Machines (EBM): An information technology corporation headquartered in Germany (an obvious nod towards IBM). As a corporation existing since the late 1900's, EBM has developed as the leading manufacturer of computers and high-tech equipment worldwide, and is one of the most significant corporations in existence.
During the late 1990's, EBM performed "the greatest free-market hostile takeover in history" under the lead of a known master corporate raider, Dr. Kurt Muller. The operation forced the merging of EBM with a vast number of other prominent computer companies around the world, further reinforcing the already fearsome power that EBM holds in the market.
Currently, Muller, along with the other two members in the company's triumvirate, Ulf Grunwalder of Munich and Sir Nathaniel Poole of London, collectively hold 52.1% of company shares, and together contribute the majority vote in EBM's corporate interest. Their long-term objective is to "consolidate as much of the world's high-tech manufacturing as possible under their label, by any means."

Infocomp: A commercial think-tank and information repository.

International Electric Corporation (IEC): A European conglomerate involved in multiple and diverse industries ranging from consumer products to heavy construction through to corporate finance and insurance (an obvious nod towards General Electric).

Kenshiri-Adachi Armaments: More commonly known by its abbreviated name, Kendachi, is a Japanese arms manufacturer specializing in advanced technology. Their most famous products are their series of monoblades, the F-253 heavy flamethrower, and the Dragon handheld flamethrower.

Lazarus Group: An American private military contracting and private security firm with close ties to Militech

Merril, Asukaga & Finch: Financial analysts (an allusion to Merrill Lynch)

Microtech: A computer and electronics manufacturer. (a reference to Microsoft)

Militech: An American arms manufacturer and mercenary contractor with strong ties to the Imperial American Government and its military; its CEO desires to make the AE into a superpower again and often competes with Arasaka for influence. They specializes in the development and production of weapons and equipment for military forces, private contractors, and local police departments.

Mitsubishi-Sugo: A major transportation manufacturer

Network News 54: The local 24-hour news station in Night City , California. This Organization uses Media People to document significant stories as they unfold.

Orbital Air: An African corporation with a monopoly on space transportation.

Petrochem: An energy company.

Raven Microcybernetics: Leading cybernetics company in the American Empire.

SovOil: An Ameri-Soviet oil giant, controlling a vast percentage of the petrochemicals market.

Trauma Team International: A private medical firm also dealing in medical insurance, prepaid disaster relief, prepaid CSAR, etc.; teams extract their patients from hostile Landing Zones and then evacuate them to an emergency care facility.

World News Service: A worldwide news conglomerate, similar to the Associated Press or Fox News Corporation

World Satellite Communications Network (WorldSatCom): A satellite communications giant

Zetatech: A computer, cyberdeck, robotics, and cybernetics manufacturing company, Zetatech is among the number of newer corporations operating in the world. Based out of California, the company specializes in wetware and computer hardware and software design.

Cyberdyne Inc: Cyberdyne was founded on June 24, 2004, by a professor at the University of Tsukuba as a venture company to develop his ideas for an exoskeleton suit. The name is the same as a fictional company from the Terminator film series, which also produces robots. The name, however, is not intentionally a reference, but from the new academic fields of "Cybernics," and the suffix "-dyne," referring to power. Recently they've now become one of Japan's leading Cybernetics corporation and have a firm grip in the market since 2024.

Tachibana Laboratories: They are the company responsible for the creation of Copland OS, by far the most popular OS for computers, and also manufacture hardware. Also, "Tachibana" is the name of a citrus fruit in Japan, which may also stipulate the fact that it was a nod to Apple Inc.

Consumer Express (ConEx): ConEx is a delivery services company based on FedEx featured in the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex anime series. It was likely used to avoid the FedEx trademark. Yes, it actually does exist in the series.

Tyrell Corporation: Tyrell is named after its founder Eldon Tyrell and is a high-tech corporation primarily concerned with the production of Androids and Bioroids. The company's motto is "More human than human". The corporation is headquartered in two large, pyramid-like structures that lie on the outskirts of Los Angeles. Elevators run along the outside of the massive structures, which both are at least 800 stories high.

Okay, These are corporations that, some of them, were investigated by Section 9 due to corporate terrorism, espionage, sabotage and even wars waged amongst themselves. Some of them are downright malevolent while others are neutral and passive. If you guys watch enough weird anime, then yes I pretty much grabbed the company from Serial Experiments Lain because I liked the series too and this was a shoutout to the show.

Also, yes Cyberdyne is a shoutout to terminator, but it is also a shoutout to the real company too, I guess. Weird. :?

Some of these corporations might apply to the SAC fanfiction universe, but these might also be used for another fanfiction I have in the works right now. This different fanfiction I have is set in the films that supposedly follow the manga-verse.
