Pretty much the whole dialogue between Aoi and Motoko, I like. with refrences of J.D Salinger, Chigo Berdove( I think is a movie director), Frederrick James( I do not know who he is), and Osawa Masachi( I also do not know who he is). Masachi Ohsawa is a Japanese comparative sociologist who's done a...

I agree with Motoko2030: The mistake that she made makes her seem more human to me, no matter how much of the human body is replaced by prosthetics, you are still human that can make mistakes and not be infallible even with all of the cybernetic implants in your body. And I think Lightice is correct...

Re: Wantanabe fan

Does anyone know what Wantanabe (Bebob, S.Champloo, ?wolfs rain?) is doing next? I do so love his work. I think he did work on Escaflone in some capacity, that is probably where that came from. Sad endings are ok if they fit the plot, I do hate the endless loop endings though. Maybe they are to ref...

And I'm glad you like the series. I have another convert. :p Heheheh. Your recommendation didn't hurt (and it did add to my desire to see the series), but I'd been wanting to see the show since I saw the trailer on the Appleseed DVD. Unfortunately, the first DVD of the series was released post-Katr...

An update: I watched the first four episodes of Gankutsuou the other night. All kinds of cool. The first two episodes condense and rework events from Chapters 31-39 of The Count of Monte Cristo , and the series proceeds from that point; a good choice, I think, as this leaves the Count's origin, iden...

But like you said, if you don't know about the brain-bug, what choices do we have about assigning an identity?
That's a good argument for pursuing certain lines of scientific and philosophical investigation.

The funny thing about us is we don't pay attention to small changes as much as we do big ones. For example, no one gets fat overnight. We wake up each day a tiny bit heavier than before and maybe after a couple of years you look in the mirror and say “damn, where did all this fat come from... I use...

In general I like speculative fiction, have read mostly fantasy. That's cool. Feel free to mention any favorites. (I know this is "That Science Fiction Thread," but I hope we can be flexible... As I've said, the two genres share a common history, and they weren't always regarded as comple...

So, about those statements of Kim's...   Today was a relatively slow real-world/offline day for me, but the next few days won't be. I eagerly await people's thoughts, questions, and comments about Kim-- even if I won't get to see them immediately. (You know, I believe-- or maybe hope...

Well, Ok, if you want it. I generally try to back up my stuff, though even as a grad student I do not come close to competing with he what apparently knows all, Mr. VW. Thank you for those kind words. Having encountered me, perhaps you should kill your mental image of me, though... Goodness k...

You might want to consider the parallels between the Islamic concept of Mahdi and the Fremen name "Muad'Dib"... They used the term Mahdi , itself in Dune, as well, didn't they? It was one of the titles used of Paul Atreides. Muad'Dib, his Fremen-name was a dune rat that could live ...

Dune was one of the greatest books I've read. I can honestly say that it had a massive impact on my life and how I view the world. I would recommend that anyone who likes to think when they read a book check this one out. I feel like I should read Dune again now that I've taken a class in Koranic s...
