There's another angle to look at here. Since both the Major and Batou have synthetic bodies they don't have all those hormones running around that are commanding them to "get busy" like all us meat sacks. Further, the Major was cyberized at such a young age that she's almost a Joan of Arc...

First and foremost, to me, GitS is a detective show, so I expected more of that, but it just seems like everything was handed to Mira and the only tension in the story was created from her being unable to color inside the lines. That is one obvious issue for fans of the franchise of course, that it...

I can really see two sides there Freitag, its not done great at the box office so you could argue the studios would feel less inclined to put more money in. Equally though you could say the reverse and they actually have more reason to look for home release income plus arguably a property with more ...

Re: Video Release

Looks like the physical release (in its various forms) of the Live-Action Film is slated for July 25th, 2017. Quick turnover which is common for poorly performed films. Many films this year are tanking, so I don't think it necessarily is because of the provocative issues that killed attendance, I t...

As I understand it male and female brains behave pretty much the same way during orgasm(endorphins are an opioid like morphine as well so the drug mix up makes sense) so that wouldn't be an issue. The grey area would seem to link into a wider grey area in GitS as a whole with how you link up a brain...

The big issue to me seems to be the Moores law gets applied to technology as a whole when in reality we've seen that's not been the case. Equally I think its a popular theory because laymen tend to overestimate the power of current computers relative to the human brain due to the former being better...

Looking at the plot I would say as well that I don't think its as simple as wanting to revert to somewhat more straight forward, granted I do think that was likely an issue but also I think you need to consider the era the film was made. The original manga and Oshii's first film were created in an e...

That was a nice way of making the film a bit more contemporary in a fashion that didn't really need a great deal of explanation. That does also I think play into the main shift in the Majors character which we see most clearly in the scenes with Dr Ouellet. Whilst competent professionally due i'd im...

Typically I'd say gnostic influence on modern art tends to be mostly via the concept of the demiurge, the imperfect creactor. Blade Runner for example I think pretty clearly has Tyrell in that role who creates the replicants but cannot give meaning to them(especially Batty with his ubermensch like n...

Yeah that thread seems like it would be better in the live action film section, it does make reference to previous versions but really in respect to the new one.

The previous model idea is a pretty common plotline though, Data and Lor from TNG comes to mind for example. I wouldn't be supprised if there was always a bit of a Bionic Woman influence on GitS though going right back to the manga mixed in with stuff like Terminator, Blade Runner and indeed Robocop...

We did have the likes of the Blade Runner Replicants well before GitS of course but they were implied to be mostly organic where as GitS has always tended to focus on eternalising its technology which I spose would be viewed as a little an anachronistic today, the film does almost feel like a time c...

Yes I tend to agree, earlier on I think the film plays on the idea that Aramaki might not be so different from Cutter yet seeing him able to stand up for himself like this obviously helps gives the message that he retains more of a connection to those who work under him. Another issue mentioned by t...

The ironic thing for me about all the talk around Rinko Kikiuchi as a potential alternative casting seemed to be based on her featuring in Pacific Rim. Whilst I wouldn't take serious issue with that film given its light tone for me is actually a much more obvious example of both white washing pushin...

To echo my review in the other thread I would agree the story has been "robocopped" to some degree although of I would argue the first couple of Robocop films were well made quite intelligent pieces of sci fi. I think some shift was inevitable when you were talking a $100 million blockbust...
