You can be intellectually agnostic about their validity, but that still doesn't change the fact that everyone (being human) inherently, intuitively, automatically trusts their perception. It's all mental.

"At what point does a person become another person?" Every second. I suppose the most clear definition of "person" would be one of the following: (a) brain (conglomerate of cells) (b) mind (what the brain does) (c) soul (in a mind/body independence theory) (d) personality (traits...

"Love the idea of robots all around me!" "They're great for most things, but maybe not everywhere." I like to separate my fantasy and pragmatism . . . so on two levels I agree with the both of these! Saito: I don't think we necessarily have to have sentient robots all around us, ...

If you want to actually fool people on a forum over the internet on April 1st, the best way to do it would be to present real, shocking information but present it sarcastically, trying to imply that you are lying. Then - they laugh when they find that they were fooled by the entire concept of April ...

It`s to show her individuality as a person and as a woman as well. It`s the way she wants to prove herself as an individual, not just a piece of prosthetic junk. Does she really care about *proving* herself? Notice how in Solid State Society she spends all of her personal time doing what Section 9 ...

This is actually more than just a breakthrough now, it's in the process of being perfected and improved. In fact, I just read something similar to what you're talking about a couple of weeks ago (one day before you posted) http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=cyborg-10 EDIT I'm going to go back on th...

The problem nobody's talked about is programming creativity. All AI's we have now are narrow, and have come about because of specialization. Yes, they could look for math theorems, "analyze" things, and orient in spatial reality, but these things are horribly limited in the way the machine...

"Would an e-brain inhabited by a human mind 'read' a file of information without changing it in the same way a computer/pure AI would or would it 'interpret' the information according to it's own form?" One wonders whether an "e-brain" could even emulate the human mind in the fir...

What is the importance of the "stand alone complex"

The show portrays the "stand alone complex" in two major fashions: (1) Socioeconomic: There is corruption and scandal in the medical industry, and a victim/hero tries to shine a light on it. No one in the public sees the series of events for what they truly are; it wasn't corporate terrori...

The episode in its entirety definitely isn't trash. It talks about the background of Kuze, alludes to some operation in Mexico where drugs are formed into figurines to be sold, and once again shows how the lower levels of society function (a major theme in 2nd GIG). It highlights the formation of id...

Of course it was fan service - try picturing a woman in reality in a pink panty suit that is in a secret government section philosophizing about what it means to be human. Seriously, would you call that woman as mature as you think of Motoko in the show? It would be better if she wore less superfici...
