Graphic Novel vs Single Issue Comics

Post by H-street »

Well i'm starting to collect the comics..

what are peoples opinions between just getting the graphic novels vs getting the individual issue comics?

i got lucky enough to order a complete set of MMI of single issues and am now looking to get the first series..

I'm too cheap to buy single issues, so I prefer to wait until they're collected and sold for less. But perhaps the single issues are in a larger format? I was a bit disappointed when the MMI paperback turned out to be much smaller than the original manga.

I usually get both. I like the individual issues because they each have a unique cover (some of which did not appear in the TPB), and because they appreciate in value much more quickly. As for finding the singel issues of the original GITS manga, good luck. I've only been able to find two and they were both expensive, one was $20-$25 (it was the first volume though).

The past two Ghost in the Shell manga issues, I have only picked up the second uncut edition of them, but for Ghost in the Shell 1.5, I will pick up the individual issues and the book with all of them in plus the disc that comes with it.

I prefer the paperbacks because they're less likely to fall apart when i read them to death.

i'm almost a little worried to take them out of the bags and read them..

Personally I have been hunting for the first single issues for quite some time, but haven't had any luck. Does anyone know any way to find them outside of Ebay?

i'm not sure about other places, but just keep your eye out on Ebay..

depending on how much you want to spend just determines how long you will wait..

there are 2 sets on ebay right now for volume 2.. but they seem a bit pricey (7$ / issue)..

or you can probably piece meal it together easier.. (although it is nice to get it in a set)..

eg..

here you can get 4/8 for 11$ (2.75$ / issue) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... gory=73573

and then work on getting the others

or you can get this full set for for 5$ / issue
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... gory=73573

i probably looked for 4-5 months on ebay before i finally ran into a good deal on both sets.

If I'm hunting for a manga then I'll try to find it in graphic novel format for the simple reason that a graphic novel is a little easier to keep up with, however if I see a single issue manga that I think I'll like I'm not adverse to buying it then. Its all a situational matter.

in case anyone needs them here is the MMI for 25$ shipped, make sure to double check they are the 11 issues and not the single novel.
