It varies a lot I've found. Depending on context, she tends to be made to look taller or shorter, but she's never as tall as Bateau.

lol.

I guess, it all depends on her 'shell' at the time. There could be no definitive answer. Unless you speak of a certain time period.

According to Ep 26 of 1st Gig, she is 168 cm.
It all balances out ... in the end.

is her body military-strength? How is she so tough, but able to have a relatively generic body ( as quoted in Cash Eye)

To me, it must be greatly improved. But with that said, is she able to get away with such a body bc of her employment with section9?

Some of this is brought out in the manga. In Cash Eye, the lecherous banker mentions her skin sensitivity and asks if it is 16^2. In the manga it is brought out that the cost of adding touch sensitivity to a shell goes up exponentially the more sense you want because of the process of making it. They essentially drench the skin with a nano goo that burrows down to the lower layers leaving wires behind it - this is the simulated nerve endings and neurons to convey the touch. The process governed by statistical principles so to achieve a little bit of sense you only need a little goo. But to achieve a really high degree of sense you need a ton of goo. The 16^2 refers to 16 sensors per square cm of skin. At one point I think it was suggested that the level of sensitivity like that is illegal (controlled in the same way that drugs are controlled)

In Missing Hearts and ____ (epsiode where Major is having acupuncture done*) it is established that she knows several people in the medical field. I don't recall if either of those women were the same ones in the scenes where she researched the Laughing Man incident on storage unconnected to the net. I sort of think they were. Anyway this hints at her relationship with with people able and willing to do her a favor and get her a high sensitivity body**.

In both the movie and the series she rips the hatch off a tank, damaging herself pretty significantly, but succeeding. I'm going to say that your average civilian is not going to achieve that level of strength. I'm pretty sure she has at least a lightly reinforced chassis.

There is also a scene (I think it might be when Section 9 breaks up or perhaps a contemplative moment in one of the movies - I really do not recall) where she is just going around town and you see two other people with her exact same model of body. So I am pretty sure she is designed to look unassuming.

*Dunno how far along in watching you are - trying to to be a spoiler.

**Here are two versions of the cover of one of the mangas
cover 1
cover 2
Notice in the bottom right hand corner of cover 2 there is a warning. There are a couple more pages in this version that explain a little more of the majors 'proclivities' (let's just say she has no basis to complain about the banker) and some of her contacts outside of Section 9. Depending on your age and need for access to original material, you'll be interested in one or the other of these. The second borders on hentai. No. it IS hentai.

Oh, tripped over this link while trying to find an episode reference. Completely unrelated to the topic at hand, it's the sort of thing that you folks like to read ;)

The goo thing is interesting, i have not read any of the mangas, so maybe I should chk into them for some more info...

I have seen all the way through SSS, but beginning only with SAC season 1 (thank you Adult Swim)

I also need to check that episode you are talking about with people that look like her.

Well, getting back to her chassis, it must have upgrades out the wazoo, bc among opening tank hatches ( on more than one occasion) and he ability to jump from side of buildings to other sides of buildings like Spiderman...like you said, I imagine those arent options available for the common person.

And it seems like the "criminals" they come into contact with who have upgrades are always half assed, which leads me to believe they are performed by back alley doctors, and not the ones Major visits, lol

The cool thing about the Major though is while she has all the strength, she still has an ayer of delicacy about her.

I think the jumping might be more standard than not.

Again in one of the manga (I think Man Machine Interface) she has to get from point A to point B rapidly and the fastest way is hopping from roof-top to roof-top Matrix style and rather than being referenced as abnormal it is referenced as illegal - you are supposed to at least act human.

But MMI is set later than the first movie so perhaps what is standard equipment has changed?

I've lost rack of which piece goes with what, but I think that MMI follows after the story in the first movie where she contacts the Puppet Master.
