Yeah, I'm sorry Jeni... Jeff just hadn't had time to do it yet. He's been insanely busy with work since way before Christmas even (and they actually gave him extra work to do over the holidays that he wasn't supposed to do for another few months, much to my disgust... or rather, just dissappointment). To be honest, I really don't have that much time to do stuff here either as I'm working on a lot of my own projects and I'm also studying...I just hope Jeff gets around to posting the rules soon so I can actually enforce them with something to back me up
Anyway, even if we get some proper rules they will still be fairly loose. Basically, the main thing is that people should have common sense (kind of uncommon, I know). But just some of the random main things that I think most of us would find unacceptable:
No nasty language. Have a good attitude. No linking to anything naughty (like illegal downloads or pornographic things). Nothing sexist, homophobic, racist, religiously intollerant, etcetera (use your discretion as to what is and isn't bad- I think people can tell the difference, even if they pretend not to). Don't talk or behave in an offensive or tasteless manner; for example, when talking about say, Motoko, it is fine to mention that she is wearing a skimpy outfit or that you think that she is a beautiful woman, but please don't go on and on about how "hot" she is like some drooling idiot or make other undignified/immature remarks. Likewise, it is okay to have discussions that touch on "mature" themes (the likes of which maybe involved in some anime), but don't be crude and keep it as clean as possible- we do not want to hear something foul described in explicit detail, and we certainly don't want to hear about things like that exciting you. And if you want to talk about "certain" male or female body parts, well obviously there is nothing bad or awful about naming them from a scientific point of view, but it is probably nicer if you just "imply" what you mean in an innocent sort of way. And it's probably nicer in general if not every topic ends up in adult subject matter-world, for that matter.
And also, please remember that people on the Internet are all different ages, will have different backgrounds and cultures, and generally come from all walks of life. Gently help people who seem a bit misguided or young, and have patience with the first year philosophy students; because we all thought we were great when we were new to big ideas. Always be asking yourself, "How would I feel if-" or "How would he/she feel if he/she heard that?" Also, if someone does not behave in an acceptable fashion, unless it is something that's just really awful, be civil about it. It isn't nice to talk down to people, although we all sometimes feel that some people deserve it. Finally, don't be too full of yourself (power-hungry individuals and cocky show-offs are not welcome)!
And yes, this can be taken subjectively. But people were traditionally very good at being a civilised and understanding community who could run itself quite agreeably here... If everybody concentrates on doing their part then it will hopefully stay that way, despite the current trends.

Asides from a few hard-and-fast rules (like the thing about linking), the rules are really more an "attitude"...
You know what you think of when you think of Jesus? Be like that.

Hehe, nicely said black mamba!Black Mamba wrote:The rules here are very basic and understandable. No one really reads them to begin with.with something to back me up
Your a mod, so your word is rule. People should respect what you say without doubt.
But I guess technically you should have rules, so people can't use it as a loophole.
And hi you guys! Nice to be back!
Jeni, you've sure grown into a very puppeteer-like figure around here! Respect everywhere you turn!
But I do agree, the rules are nice and simple. And for those who don't read them...well, they're no different than any of us, concidering I bet we all just skipped through them. Still, it gives a level of 'orderly appearance' having them up.

I don't really care if people read the rules or not. I mean it'd be nice if newcomers to the forum would read the rules like they're supposed to do (I mean that's just what should be done regardless... nettiquite or something like that is what I think they call it), but as I already said I can't enforce something that isn't there. It just doesn't seem right.marto_motoko wrote:

Fully agreed Jeni! And besides, it can be more beneficial to new members who maybe have never had a forum experience before!

Well as I said in my PM to you... I still think the "hard and fast" rules need to be listed and mentioned. Such as the no links to downloadable materials and no foul language etc.Jeff Georgeson wrote:Excellent rules, Sylphi! Where's that person who's supposed to post them!?
Oh ... that's me ...

Yes, that shall be the rules for now! Anyone who isn't being good samaritan enogh needs to go and sit in the corner. Do good deeds, and speak nicely ...I'm really not religious you know. But I like Jesus a lot.
