I'm with lightice on that point ^. Any sort of strong AI with human or higher abilities in creativity and similar fields of thought would be welcomed by the majority of people. The benifits of such an AI are just too large for much dissent. The human mind is haphazard and cluttered it has developed,...

well whichever way you look at it the use of mythology in practical desicions is a mistake(e.g. in theocratic governments/wars, IntellegentDesign, Jihad). ‘Logos’ is the rational, pragmatic and scientific thought that enables men and women to function in this world. Unlike ‘mythos’, ‘logos’ must rel...

I normal go with the idea that what 'they hate in our culture' is all the violent foriegn policy, support of muderous regimes & groups; involvement in Biological Weapons, the many human rights abuses, the self serving corrupt governemnt, WMD, Land Mines, The Arms Trade, that we have a self-glori...

actually Spetsnaz just means 'special forces' and can refer to any of a number of russian special forces, both military and civil. But anyway comparisons between special forces (real or fictional ;) ) is kinda' irrelevent because they mostly operate in very different situations. SAS are the world's ...

It's strange how all the cognitive things like object recognition, comparitive reasoning etc. that everyone thought were going to be so hard to do when Robotics was just picking up speed, have been so much easier to develop than the relatively simple task of getting the thing to walk properly.

Mythology and Religious symbolism in GitS 1

Well this is something I've been wondering about the meaning of ever since I first saw GitS. What is the purpose of the references to mythology/religion? Oshii’s films commonly use themes of mythology or religion to get the viewer to begin thinking critically about the hegemony of power structures o...

I read in a Warren Spector interview that origionally there was only going to be one ending and that was the merging with Helios one because he'd been watching ghost in the shell none stop. :) ...meh the important thing is it's a kickass bit o' storytelling. I have to admit it makes more sense that way round with Batou's continuing war with him. Oh another thing.. ...did anyone else get the feeling that they were trying to say something about US foriegn policy with this episode? to me it seemd like a metaphor for how the USA supports or creates terroris...

I have to admit the e-space/cyberspace/whatever scenes look good in cg, but that's only to be expected as it fits the concept so well. I just prefer the sense of movement that the line art can convey, as opposed to the cg work where a lot of characters just seem to float about(although alot of the t...
