I'm probably also the only one who will say this but I really didn't like Stranger in a Strange land ESPECIALLY because of Jubal Hershaw. What a womanizer!! (at least the characters were interesting though) Jeni, what I find most annoying about Heinlein is that the man felt the need to insert at le...

thank you for the recomends just read slaughterhouse 5, very good bit of writing. :) Elmo, you're quite welcome. Glad you're enjoying those books... But as for Gibson I think his worlds are vast and interesting, but again characterwise he could use a little work. I read Neuromancer again this year ...

Wong Kar-Wai is the best! What is your favourite film of his? I liked the maturer tone of "In the Mood For Love", but my favourite is probably still the "Chungking Express"/"Fallen Angels" films with their complementing stories and set-up. Has anyone seen "2046&qu...

Sylphisonic, welcome back-- and good luck on your uni work. Wow, that's quite some posts you have there! I enjoyed reading what I could- this bit made me feel like I was a subject in a textbook. I often have the same feeling... when I'm not feeling like a pariah, I mean.  It was fun, act...

I said my view point ran along the same lines, compared to all the view points one can have on life a fair comment I would say, and I would laught at anyone petty enough to have issue with that. ])R@G()N, you wrote in the earlier post: I am unfamilliar with the specifics of most buddhist references...

i think the major achieved a peace with everything akin to this state of acceptance of the way of things that something of infinate or zero conciousness would have by default. So... why does she help Batou? And why does she take an active role in things? And why will she always be there for him? I ...

Here's another way of looking at the problem. To be sinless-- like our metaphorical elephant-- is to be innocent, whereas sin implies guilt. So, what does the film's title mean? And how and why are animals innocent? Does innocence imply what we think of as "goodness"? And what does a gynoi...

])R@G()N, the lyrics to the second film's choral pieces are available in the booklet that comes with the Innocence soundtrack album, and on the Innocence video anthology. As for the talk of Gods, you seem to be talking about ones the lyrics are referencing. That seemed advisable, as I was talking ab...

Guns and Ammo Redux.

])R@G()N, a minor point: some of the english dialog doesnt make sense, she seems to imply Batou shot the robot with a shotgun, when that was not what we saw at the begining, the subtitled version doesnt do this, instead she just says the robot 'was' shot with it, she doesnt imply it was Batou. In th...

Yeah, the movies would probably make a lot more sense if you watched the series first. Especially since the connections Death and Rebirth makes between certain scenes from the series would be confusing if you didn't know the original context, and End of Evangelion is a reworking of the show's ending...

totaly, i think that song is meant to reflect that side of the film. Motoko telling Batou to follow her to a place where you can be at peace with yourself, '..rising above thwe fun years of the night, into the light beyond the tears, and all the years we have wasted'. If u listen to the lyrics they...

Did anyone throw in History of Violence yet? Tonks_kittygoth, I believe the comic and film were mentioned somewhere on this thread... Rocketter would go for the influence thing. Especially since the Rocketeer film is based upon the Dave Stevens comic series, which was itself a huge tribute/h...

We owe a lot to the French when it comes to quality comics. Most of the best stuff I read when I was a kid seems to have been done by people with French names. Gillsing, I agree with you. I became interested in French and European comics back in the Eighties, and I have a great deal of affection fo...

I didn't know that, and I read several issues of that comic when I was a kid. I never read much Lone Wolf and Cub, but I recognised them in Shogun Assassin. The Valérian - Fifth Element connection is an excellent example of feedback between comics and films. Besson's a huge Valérian fan, so he hire...

Agreed. He makes some wonderful, surreal works. I've read all his albums translated into Finnish - so far I haven't seen English translations. Immortel ad Vitam wasn't as good movie as the Nikopol -trilogy was a comic series, but it was still interesting rework of the story... I was wondering what ...
