Something i can't resist recommending, It's sort of Science Fiction, 'The Book of Dave' by Will Self. It's a vision of how the world would be if an entire society and their language/culture was based off a 'religious text' written by an semi-illiterate racist london taxi cab driver called dave. :lol...

meant to post this a long while back in case anyone's interested here's an online copy of J.D. Salinger's The Laughing Man I know reading fiction from a browser window isn't perfect (i read it in a bookstore :) ) but it really is a very short short story  . It only has the most tenuous links t...

Well, not that i would recommend this attitude but at one end of the range of ways we could deal with a new intelligence* would be Facism. There's a twisted sort of logic to it if we are 'in it for the species' and humanity is the hometeam then it makes sense to keep a new intelligence in check if w...

Well I don't really have much experience outside of a passive interest and attending a lecture on the topic at a philosophy conference (Geek! ), but that chap was just using the whole thing to try to back up his halfassed collective unconciousness concepts.. jerk  :P The development of ...

/me straps on asbestos pants I think we're still in 'spirited debate' mode rather than flaming territory. It hasn't gotten as bad as god threads traditionally get yet, i haven't outright mocked anyones beliefs or said their gods are whiny beatchs so far  god threads are as moths to the flaming..

it's strange that Boma gets so little dialougue and screentime, but I like it like that. They should keep his character a little bit mysterious, it makes it more suprising when they use him for some unexpected role; e.g. the car crash assasination and his sapper thang he did defusing the bomb.. like...

Think of how literature, art, music, and governments have been shaped by religions and how it has shaped the world as a whole. Religion shapes our morals. I would say that it's the other way round ever since the deuteronomists, and even before that, we have been reworking old myth to fit our latest...

Michael Bay maybe a big sellout when it comes to product placement, but in a sick kind of way isn't that authentic? ...awesome though they were, the earlier transformers cartoons were basically just toy commercials with dialogue..

I never did like NGE. Got way too emo for me. I hated the characters. The scifi in it is cool and all, but the emoness is too much for me. I' like characters with interesting personalities and stuff, not the troubled kid with the bad relationship with his noncaring father, but that's just me. YEY! ...

As to the timeline and which to watch first, it's best to think of it as being in three seperate alternate universes, one for the films one for the series and one for the manga. like so; (I know it's not complete but sneh :P ) http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/8651/timeline001um9.png Also there are...

I don't see why you think a world without gods is devoid of value. What could be of more value than a world we make for ourselves, with our own values and our own aims? If our world is created and controlled by gods then all we do is wait for death, earning salvation-points until the big boss comes ...
