I'm going to go back to the original topic, to which my basic response was "can humans ever stop being subjective, really?" As information coming through artificial means would be complete and in no need of such interpretation. It's quite possible that an artificial platform to receive the...

Originally written for classical guitar, I think? I recognized it in the film from listening to my dad's records when I was young - it's a gorgeous rendition of it, and it works so well with the nostalgic atmosphere of the cars and decor.

Hmm...some movies with moments I find really affecting are Nausicaa, Millenium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers, Mind Game, Ghost in the Shell, Voices of a Distant Star (and it's accompanying short, She and Her Cat, which was mentioned by someone else), Princess Arete, and even the extremely old-school Que...

Well it's more a problem of what angles they show as to what design details are discernable. Of course something like the dress is definitely obscure enough that one could just make up any missing details oneself to ones own taste ^_^ And btw, snap! I'm also at art school, in my last year of my BFA....

I love NewMotoko's dress from the end of the movie! I was very happy to see it reappear in the second one. Very hard to find reference pics of though.

I have this patch which I got at a con last year: http://www.animenation.com/ge7155.html It's absolutely adorable (and crazy affordable!) and I sewed it onto a blue zip-up sweater, and it looks like it was always there ^_^ marto_motoko: I really enjoy sewing and cosplay, so I'm more on the clothing ...

Sylphisonic: Good point - Millenium Actress has a warmth to it that I don't associate with outright philosophising, but the two ends are of course not mutually exclusive. I was just thinking yesterday that I need to go and rent Tokyo Godfathers again over Christmas! The first time I saw it it left m...

Thank you Silphisonic! ^_^ That would be fun - fighting games have some great designs in them! (I wouldn't mind doing something from Guilty Gear or Soul Caliber sometime) And will do! For those who feel like doing less sleuthing than Silphisonic, here's my gallery: http://images.cosplay.com/gallery....

does SAC represent a counterfeit reality, a copy of reality, or a produced replacement reality in which the mimic has become more real than the prior reality? I wonder - probably something of a sliding scale - it starts out as a purposely manipulated counterfeit reality, but its propagation into th...

I just found this place last night, and registered on the spot since it seems nice and active ^_^ I'm in BC Canada (at the moment at least), and while I like doing a lot of things, school pretty much keeps me busy 24/7 - I'm in my last year of a bachelor of fine arts, working mostly in illustration,...

I agree with ghengis' Baudrillard reference. The Laughing Man is a hyperreality - the representation takes on a life of it's own and become its own reality, separate from what it originally referred to. The Laughing Man himself states that he never called himself the Laughing Man - this was a title ...

That's interesting - I hadn't noticed most religious and mythological references in the film occuring around the Puppetmaster. Actually, it's been ages since I last watched it, but when Motoko quotes Corinthians that's also the Puppetmaster talking isn't it? Naturally the very title suggests confict...
